Duke, a small and lively monkey, lived deep in the heart of a tropical rainforest. Known for his curious nature and playful antics, he often ventured far from his troop to explore hidden nooks of the jungle. One humid afternoon, while playing by a muddy stream, Duke noticed something wriggling in the water. Intrigued, he leaned closer to get a better look. Little did he know, danger lurked beneath the murky surface.
As Duke dipped his hand into the stream, a massive leech latched onto him with surprising speed. The creature, much larger than Duke had ever seen, bit down firmly on his arm. Startled, Duke screeched and tried to pull away, but the leech’s grip was tenacious. Its slimy body glistened as it fed, drawing blood from the small monkey’s tiny limb.
Panicking, Duke thrashed and called out, hoping his troop would hear him. The leech’s bite stung, and Duke could feel his energy waning. After a few desperate moments, his cries reached the ears of an older, wiser monkey named Tiko, who had seen such creatures before. Tiko rushed to Duke’s side and assessed the situation.
Using a trick he’d learned, Tiko grabbed a handful of dry leaves and a small rock. He gently rubbed the leaves against the leech, creating friction that caused it to release its grip. The big leech fell into the water, and Tiko quickly pulled Duke away from the stream.
Though shaken, Duke was grateful for Tiko’s intervention. He learned a valuable lesson that day: curiosity, while exciting, must be tempered with caution. As he rejoined his troop, Duke vowed to be more careful in his adventures, forever mindful of the hidden dangers that could lurk in even the most beautiful places.
